You can find this review at Brief Encounters Reviews.I found this story terribly romantic, even though the couple in question are only together for a very short time at the end. Eilif has been searching for the way to save his lover, trapped between two worlds, for over a millenia, and has realized that modern medicine will be the way. He has been reinventing himself as a doctor for decades to learn the most modern of techniques, however, he knows he can’t do it alone and must find a doctor who will not be freaked out by magic and he can’t very well just magick his injured lover into he middle of the ER. He discovers another doctor whose partner has a bit of magic and he begins courting him, until he finally reveals his own power and asks for help, which is easily given. What I enjoyed about this was the love and passion that Eilif has felt for Jon for the centuries. He hasn’t forgotten him. He’s not been celibate for those thousand years, but his one quest in life above all others has been to find a way to save Jon’s life and bring him back. There are little snippets of their relationship and how Jon died told through Eilif’s memory or as he shares his story with David and Max so you understand how the current situation came to be. I just found that unwavering commitment to the man he loved terribly romantic in the most grand fashion of tragic romances, although this one has a lovely HEA ending. Usually I’m a bit more of a cynic, but maybe Eilif being a mage and the other time and place made it seem believable in that fantastic way of magic. So as I said, it’s quite different with the fact that only at the end do the two lovers in question spend time together. A bit was mentioned of Jon’s need to adapt to modern times and his typical man in charge frustration of being injured and forced abed for weeks, but their ultimate reunion was so sweet and hot and sexy with a bit of a kinky edge, that I quite enjoyed the build-up to those last few pages. When an author can make me “feel” the emotion of the characters, I know they’ve done a good job and it definitely worked for me in this one.
The idea behind this story is quite interesting: take one sorcerer around the year 1000 BC who is immortal, add his lover who gets mortally wounded and is beyond the sorcerer’s ability to heal, and the sorcerer’s determination to save him. So, of course, the sorcerer puts the lover into ‘stasis outside time’ and waits around for magic, or medicine, to advance enough so he can save his lover.Eilif is a sorcerer, and you have got to admire his stubbornness. He is amazingly devoted to Jon, and will clearly do anything to get him back. I loved that he eventually realizes medicine is his best bet, and once he finds another doctor who is willing to work with him and accepts a patient ‘appearing from thin air’, Eilif is finally on his way.Jon has quite a few surprises awaiting him when he wakes up, but Eilif takes the time to prepare him well and explain as best he can. We don’t get to see too much of Jon, but one thing is clear: he is the dominant one in the relationship. And the one thing that hasn’t changed is the sheet-burning passion between the two men.If you like stories with a touch of magic and the impossible, if devotion that lasts more than a millennium is your thing, and if you enjoy reading about super-hot reunions, you will probably like this book.NOTE: This book was provided by Dreamspinner Press for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews.
Reviewed for Hearts On Fire ReviewsOh my, this was lovely. Eilif is one of the last great sorcerers. Belief in magic has died out, but Eilif has not. His warrior, Jon, was fatally injured in battle. Eilif did what any great sorcerer in love would do – he sent his lover into stasis between the planes of time, holding him there until such time that medicine or magic progressed to the point of being able to heal him. He is now Dr. Jameson, and the time of being able to call his lover from stasis and heal him has arrived. However, he will need help – the wounds were fatal and must be treated immediately so Jon doesn’t bleed out. He has been searching for someone sympathetic, skilled and most importantly, who will believe in magic. In Dr. David Green fits the bill (and his partner is into magic as well, making things easier). This is a short, sweet, romantic story. Eilif is just the kind of man you want to hug and reassure him, it’s going to be fine. Loyal and devoted. This second chance is an established couple separated through time, and it’s a good read.
2.5 starsNot a bad story but not a story I typically would pick to read if it wasn't part of the Time Is Eternity Anthology/Series. The concept of freezing/transporting a loved one in between two planes/worlds to wait for the means of medial technology/knowledge to catch up so you could save them was interesting even if the idea wasn't exactly original. It was a nice romantic read that most romance readers would like.
In the world that magic is dying and not enough to heal anyone anymore. Eliff has Magic power but not enough to heal his partner Jon he will do anything to save his life. He has put jon in statis mode in between worlds until he has found help and help has come but 1000 years has past. Evn thoug for Jon the world will be different but the guys love for each other is the same.
Oh my, so sweet, so romantic. Beautiful.
It wasn't great or anything. But the idea of the story was sweet and that's what I liked.
This shorty is interesting, but way to short.
