It Started with a Crush...: It Started with a Crush...\Win, Lose...or Wed! Reviews
Very good book. Lucy came back to Wicksburg to take care of her nephew while his parents are deployed. She doesn't have very many good memories of the small town where she suffered through liver disease and a transplant, and married and divorced. Right now, she is doing her best to help her nephew who misses his parents badly. The only bright spot is his love of soccer, but even that is in jeopardy if they can't find a coach for his team. Ryland is back in town recovering from a foot injury and dog-sitting for his parents. He's been told to behave and not add to his already tarnished image. When Lucy comes to him and asks him to help with the soccer team he says ok. They both feel the attraction, but Ryland is upfront about the fact he's only there for a few weeks and not interested in anything serious. That's fine with Lucy, who is still recovering from her husband's betrayal. But as time goes on, Lucy finds herself falling more under his spell and dreaming of what could be. When Ryland goes back to his team, she is heartbroken. Then a tornado rips through the town and Ryland suddenly realizes just what is important. I really liked Lucy and the way she did everything she could to help Connor deal with his parents' absence. She even put her personal feelings aside to go to Ryland. It was pretty obvious to me that Ryland used soccer to run from bad memories of his childhood. I did like the way he was so good with the kids on the team and that he cared enough to help them. I loved the conclusion with the way he helped the teams finish their season. I'd have loved an epilogue to see what was happening with them a year or two later.
Two,cute stories. Even though you can know how they will end they are fun to read. I plan to read more of this author's stories
Ryland James had never looked at Lucy Martin and seen the bloated devastation childhood liver disease had done. He had thought of her as the brave little sister of his friend and protector. He now faced the all grownup Lucy, and her sweet, sexy self was a distraction he did not want. He had escaped the small town lifestyle and was now rich, famous, a world class soccer player. Lucy had to reface the crush from her childhood. Ryland was back in town for a short time, recovering from an injury. She hoped he would help her with her nephew's soccer team, but she did not have much faith in men.Overall, a very nice story. The only thing that seemed off, for me, was the part about Ryland being bullied as a child. There never appeared to be a reason for it. Lucy had weight and health issues, but Ryland appeared healthy, cute, had a nice family. Not sure why he would have been the object for bullies.
The first story - it started with a crush- was good. I like the childhood friend to lover theme. The twist with this was that Lucy didn't realize what Ryland's childhood had been like and why soccer is so important to him. An epilogue would be nice to see what they are like after her brother gets back. Do they stay in that small town or start a live somewhere else. I figure he'll want more to do than coach one u-9 team.I didn't really like the 2nd story. Their whole relationship and all time together happens on a reality tv show. No real life at all.
I love both stories in this book. The first is a very sweet tale of crushes lasting to adulthood and figuring out what is really important in life. The second story is also a sweet one, 2 people gotten together via reality tv. I really can't say to much without spoiling the endings. So, I very much liked this book, and recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet romance story.I won this book as part of a giveaway the author had on Facebook. I was not paid for my review in any way, and the opinions are my own.
I won a copy of Melissa McClone's book, It Started With A Crush. It's a fantastic book that has two full stories. The stories are well written with great characters. The first story is about an injured soccer player and a young woman caring for her nephew while his parents are deployed. The second story is about a couple on a reality game show, and will give you lots of grins and giggles. This was my first Melissa McClone read but I'll soon be reading more from this author.
Loved both storiesWin, lose, or Wed - wonderful story about inner strength you didn't know you had. It started with a a crush!-lovely reminder that even when everything is tough. It can all work out beautifully.
Really enjoyed this one! Rich developed characters, a wonderful storyline and a fantastic read.
I loved this book! I loved it even more because it merged my two loves soccer & romance. Such a heart warming story line. Just lovely!! I'm in love with Ryland James.
